Jessica, I've also been contemplating a Brazilian blowout! But my friend told me that a) be very careful to only use the shampoo they recommend otherwise you'll strip the special blowout stuff from your hair and b) it removes any natural volume you may have so it looks pretty flat. She did like it though overall!

Just color. I feel like it has less propensity to be a total FAIL than a perm. But what do I know? I've only ever highlighted my hair. I will admit to contemplating a Brazilian blowout, though....

Honestly, when I've seen Koreans (in Korea) get perms it kind of tends to look good for a day or two and then ends up kind of limp or frizzy. Maybe it's because they don't really know how to care for permed/curly hair, but it's usually not so pretty. The only person whose curly hair ever looked amazing was my Korean hairdresser. When I asked her about it, she said she doesn't perm her hair ~ just curls it every day with a flat iron. (Way to much effort for me, but whatever.) But she had the long hair with the awesome looking loose curls.

And definitely either choose one or the other. I know Koreans are big fans of both, but when both are done, it just always looks, well, damaged.

As you can see, I have very strong opinions about the processing of hair. :) And I love that you're going to rock the ajumma perm. I threaten Mark with that on a regular basis. Haha.

I would really be interested to see how you are making Korean dishes vegetarian.

I would say perm, because it seems like less maintenance, but what do I know? My hair is all crazy/all the time.

Oh, and I think that last comment answers your question about getting obsessed about things... nice to know I'm in such good company!

Most recent obsession: convincing Nick that I have a misaligned pelvis and am surely dying.

After a lifetime of fruitlessly searching for perfect hair and cursing my limp, fine locks, I have several thoughts on your color and perm question... but, I don't speak Korean so couldn't comment on facebook :p

I've been coloring my hair for about a year now to make it shiny and glossy. I get it "glossed" in an Aveda salon, which is a non-permanent natural color. It fades out after about 12 weeks (if you use a color safe shampoo and conditioner) and is very natural so you don't get roots. I really like it as an option because it doesn't damage your hair, looks nice, and isn't noticeable when it fades. If you're new to coloring and don't want the hassle of upkeep, I highly recommend a natural, veg based temporary color. And, I highly recommend Aveda. Mine is slightly darker than my natural color but with hints of red so I think it looks pretty in the sunshine. (Or maybe I'm just totally in denial?) Also, when I had highlights in highschool, I remember thinking they were a pain to keep doing and they never looked as good as they did the first time.

I definitely vote for doing one or the other - you don't want to change up too much and find its more of a pain in the neck than you want. What about coloring it and keeping the style the same? Also, every time I see your pictures, I indulge in a moment of "her bangs are so perfect and swoopy... god I hate her" before going back to "Mica's great and so pretty!" Its just temporary hate, I promise.

Oh swoopy bangs. How many youtube videos must I watch before you behave and play along?!!?

I'm also wondering what to do about my hair. I found an Aveda salon here in Rome so I think I'll get it colored right before I head to India. But, for my bangs, I'm tempted to keep them slightly too long for swoopy-ness just because a) what if they cut them too short?! and b) its super humid in Chennai... who knows what THAT will look like!

Ahem. On that note, I think I'll go peruse some youtube videos about humidity and/or swoopy bangs!

*Sidenote: It's snowing in ROME! Izzy is not impressed*

How cool! *clap clap clap* Whenever I see a ukulele I always think of the Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World song, but hearing Walking in Memphis was fantastic!! You'll have to excuse my enthusiasm but I'm an X-Files fan and that song was used in one of the most popular episodes, PostModern Prometheus. You did a great job on the song, both singing and playing!!

My right hamstring feels about 80%, but I'm still not sure if my left one is there. I have a feeling your Body Combat class tonight is going to put them both at like -50 %.

It seems as if I have successfully infected you with my personal strain of masochism. "Running 5 miles without full use of my legs sounds like an EXCELLENT idea!"
